Nice article on NBA, I'm thinking replacing "The" with "Los" and adding it to the jersey is more of a Cinco de Mayo thing than a immigration law fashion statement.  They should went all out Los Sol (had to look up Spanish word for sun).

Lil Penny and Spike discuss making a movie

Lou Adler...The guy that sits next to Jack

Record Producer, Manager, Movie Director and Founder of Dunhill and Ode Record labels (he sold Dunhill Records in 1967 for 3 million). He produced songs for Sam Cooke, Carole King and several other acts from the 60's and 70's. He is also the winner of two Grammys for his production.

I saw Idan's story on an episode of Real NBA, I knew he was a lawyer turned sought-after trainer to NBA stars without any paid basketball experience.  After a quick search I found a Wall Street Journal article on Ravin and his story is even more amusing.  As a stress reliever he started coaching a boys YMCA basketball team.  Soon he began working out a few college players that he knew using the drills he created for his 12 year old players.  His break came when college star Steve Francis came to one of his workouts.  Now for the interesting part, Ravin is definitely not in this for the money because he's sometimes paid for his services with food or sneakers. To supplement his income he operates a group of ethnic dating sites from his laptop including Ethiopian Personals and Eligible Greeks, seriously.  Read the full article (here).

Crab Dribble Revisted

A crab dribble is when the dribbler has their back to a defender and dribbles the ball between their feet with step-slide footwork, it's used by perimeter players to protect the ball and by post players to back down their defender.

Lebron ironically called a move where he decided to maneuver his way around Wizard defenders like Barry Sanders while opting to not take any dribbles at all, his Crab Dribble.  It has since been used interchangeably with traveling.

Dwayne at His Worst

In Last nights loss Dwayne Wade led all scorers with 34 points but in the final seconds he turned into Mr. Softy again (see below video of Dwayne Wade's who couldn't walk after injuring his shoulder).  He missed the potential game winning shot (a 3-pointer with the game tied) and on his descent his foot landed on Ray Allen's foot and he caught a cramp (not a twisted ankle?).  He had to be carried off the court and sat out on the final defensive possession where Paul Pierce drained the game winning jumper.  Now Sunday's loss could be Dwayne Wade's last game as a Heat player.

Yet Another Former NBA Player is Broke

Former NBA player Derrick Coleman one of the biggest draft bust of all-time according to Sports Illustrated recently filed for bankruptcy.  Coleman's balance sheet has lost equilibrium, his assets which include a Bentley, and five fur coats are listed at $1 million but he has $4.6 million in debt.

Sadly his business deals in his hometown Detroit haven't been successful. Coleman owes between 50 and 99 creditors, including Detroit Mayor Dave Bing, American Express, Comerica, Sprint, Verizon, Hungry Howie's Pizza and Nike (source).

Road to the NBA - The Only One of His Kind

The only current NBA coach with no college or pro-ball on his resume (fired New Jersey Nets coach Lawrence Frank didn't even make his high school team) New Orleans Hornets coach Jeff Bower.

How He Made It
-Assistant coaching positions in the 80's at Penn State University then Marist -College (maybe his degree in Education made him qualified for the assistant job)
-Became the head coach at Marist for 5 years
-Started with the Hornets in 1995 as a scout and climbed the ladder
-Named General manager in 2002
-As an executive in a position of power he fired Byron Scott in November 2009 and became the head coach

*Stan Van Gundy played at The College at Brockport-State University of New York but his father Bill was the head coach at the time.

Brandon Jennings Lookbook

Just watched Brandon Jennings playoff debut where he dropped 34 in defeat.  Today he had the serious man Even-Steven normal look which is a break from Jennings' norm.  An obviously historian although he was barely born in the eighties ('89) he has really embraced styles from the eighties and early nineties. Below via A Stern Warning is a look at the best of Jennings dome styles from "The Low Left-High Right" to the "Flat-top" of the possible rookie year and definitely the coolest rookie this year.

What If?

Interesting Draft day stories from Bulls.com that changed Bulls, Lakers and Celtics history.
In 1979, the Bulls had the No. 2 overall pick, but missed out on Larry Bird because Boston took advantage of a then league rule by selecting Bird in June of 1978, a full year before he left Indiana State University.

A lost coin flip in 1979 was the only reason Magic Johnson didn’t pack his bags for Chicago.  Because they called 'Heads' instead of 'Tails' they ended up with All-American forward David Greenwood out of UCLA.

Karl Malone was available to the Bulls in 1985, but Chicago picked Memphis State’s Kevin Lee, who was later traded for Charles Oakley.

Money to Burn: Costly pro athlete screw-ups

According to Sports Illustrated almost 80 percent of NFL players are flirting with bankruptcy 2 years after they retire, and 60 percent of NBA players end up broke within 5 years of retirement.
Here is a list of athletes that have lost their fortunes through some of the biggest financial blunders of all time.
Scottie Pippen - Former Bulls star Scottie Pippen lost $120 million in career earnings due to poor financial planning and bad business ideas. Pip blew $27 million on bad investments and spent $4.3 million on a Gulfstream II corporate jet.
Evander Holyfield - Real Deal Holyfield reportedly made over $250 million in cash during his boxing career, but despite this he reportedly is flat broke. Holyfield spent $20 million on a 54,000 sq foot, 109 room house on 235 acres! You could buy a Range Rover with the electric bill payment alone.
Lenny Dykstra - The former Phillies star failed businesses include car washes, a magazine company, real estate investing and a stock trading website. According to Dykstra’s July 2009 bankruptcy filing, he owed more than $30 million to creditors, including his $18.5 million purchase of Wayne Gretzky’s home.
Latrell Sprewell - He famously turned down a $21 million contract because he said it wasn’t enough money to feed his family. Sprewell, who made over $96 million during his career, lost his $1.5 million dollar Italian yacht, named “Milwaukee’s Best”, in 2007. According to MSNBC, a U.S. marshal seized the yacht after Sprewell defaulted on his mortgage. His $5.4 million house went into foreclosure in May 2008.
Mike Tyson - The king of them all is boxer Mike Tyson, who squandered a $350 million to $400 million dollar fortune. So what did “Iron” Mike spend his fortune on? He spent over $4.5 million dollars on cars alone. Throw in a $2 million dollar bathtub and $140,000 for two Bengal tigers and you can see why Tyson’s fortune is down for the count. He filed for bankruptcy in 2003.
